Calif. Bar Votes to Require Client Disclosure on Malpractice Insurance
If it's true that the measure of any successful compromise is that few are fully satisfied, then the California State Bar's Board of Governors cooked up a good deal on malpractice insurance.
Doctors Co. Cleared to Buy SCPIE
Doctors Co., a physician-owned provider of medical-malpractice insurance, has received antitrust clearance to acquire SCPIE Holdings Inc. for about $281 million.
When Mark Adams, president of Advocate MD, launched the medical malpractice insurance carrier in 2004 on the heels of Texas' sweeping tort reform laws, the company was the first rate-regulated carrier to establish itself post-tort reform and take advantage of the void left by high premiums and fleeing doctors.
