Insurer cuts '06 malpractice rates; OKs '05 refund
TUPELO — Physician-owned Medical Assurance Co. of Mississippi, which covers about 70 percent of the state's physicians, announced a 5 percent decrease in 2006 malpractice rates and a 10 percent refund on 2005 premiums.

After a morning break Wednesday during the second day of a malpractice trail against former Gainesville Memorial Hospital Dr. John Thompson, both sides announced they had reached an agreement.
Court refuses to hear appeal in self-insured doctor case
The state Supreme Court has refused to hear Charleston Area Medical Center's appeal of a 2005 circuit court ruling that upheld a physician's right to provide his own medical malpractice insurance.
