Illinois lawmakers back damage awards for grief
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois lawmakers on Thursday passed a measure that lets jurors consider the grief and sorrow of survivors when deciding payouts in wrongful death lawsuits — a move that promises to reopen political wounds from the state's medical malpractice battle of two years ago.
Couple Awarded $1.8 Million In Malpractice Lawsuit
BOW, N.H. -- A jury has awarded a man and his wife nearly $2 million in a malpractice lawsuit against the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic. Harvey Bergeron, 83, suffered a stroke in 2001 after undergoing bypass surgery because he didn't receive proper post-surgery care, his lawyer said.
