OPED: A visit to the often shocking world of defensive medicine
More than 90% of physicians participating in a Pennsylvania-based study have used so-called "defensive medicine" tactics. Over-ordering diagnostic tests, unnecessary referrals and avoiding high-risk patients help avoid getting embroiled in malpractice lawsuits.
