GOP Candidate Romney Calls for Cap on Medical Malpractice Costs
In an Iowa medical school address focusing on health care, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney last week called for placing federal caps on non-economic and punitive damages in medical malpractice lawsuits. Said Romney, "These lottery-sized awards and frivolous lawsuits may enrich the trial lawyers but they put a heavy burden on doctors, hospitals and the entire health care system."
