Law firm settles potential malpractice claims with Enron
Houston-based law firm Andrews Kurth has agreed to pay $18.5 million to former client Enron to settle potential malpractice claims stemming from its involvement in transactions that raised red flags during a bankruptcy-related investigation. The settlement heads off potential litigation stemming from the firm's legal advice.
HCA med-mal coverage may be exaggerated
Hospital Corporation of America Inc., the nation’s biggest hospital company, apparently overstated the amount of insurance coverage it had to cover malpractice lawsuits while it was negotiating last year to sell lawsuit-plagued Putnam General Hospital.
Malpractice reform loses support
A group representing Arizona physicians now is leaning strongly against a possible initiative campaign to help doctors burdened by rising costs for medical malpractice insurance, and a senior legislator who supports caps on damages now says they're not worth the likely retaliation from trial lawyers.
