Commentary: New Studies: Suits By Injured Patients Are Not Cause of Insurance Rate Hikes
There has been lots of talk recently about the issue of medical malpractice verdicts and settlements, in which a jury or judge provides compensation to victims injured by a negligent doctor, abusive nursing home, insurance company that refuses to pay for treatment, or a drug the pharmaceutical industry knew was dangerous.
Lawmakers say session too short to fix tort cap
In greenlighting a $17 million medical malpractice lawsuit against the state, the Oregon Supreme Court sent a clear message to lawmakers: The cap on damages from injuries caused by government negligence is too low, and they need to fix it.
Pending Ohio Medical Malpractice Legislation Debated at Cleveland City Club
Ohio legislators are considering a new law to reduce malpractice insurance costs for doctors. Senate Bill 59 would require non-binding arbitration in medical malpractice cases. At today's Cleveland City Club forum, medical and legal experts debated Senate Bill 59. WKSU's Kevin Niedermier reports.
