LifePoint's shares plunge on profit drop, lower forecast
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- LifePoint Hospitals Inc. shares plunged Monday, yielding 14% as the rural hospital operator reported a 61% drop in second-quarter earnings that it attributed to bad debts, contract labor costs and professional fees, and medical malpractice insurance expenses. SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) - A judge has dismissed a malpractice lawsuit filed by the father of Kelsey Smith-Briggs, a 2-year-old girl who died after suffering repeated abuse.
