Tort reform linked to rise in doctors at CAMC
Charleston Area Medical Center is attributing its rise in new doctors to statewide medical malpractice reforms passed in 2003. Dr. Glenn Crotty Jr., chief operating officer, said the hospital has recruited around 30 doctors annually over the past few years, for a total of almost 100 new hires.
SABAH RTD Director, Asri Ahmad, said his personnel throughout the State had maintained a clean slate of discipline since 2004. He described the level of discipline among RTD personnel as satisfactory, as there had been no complaints relating to malpractice and criminal offences.
Group predicts doctor shortage
Pennsylvania is already lacking a variety of physicians and missing recruiting targets, but the state will become critically short if more isn’t done to attract, train, compensate and provide affordable malpractice insurance to doctors.
