Illinois malpractice award caps likely will face high court challenge
The bill, which Blagojevich has said he will sign, limits so-called pain-and-suffering awards against Illinois doctors to $500,000, or $1 million when the defendant is a hospital. The bill also calls for an increase in oversight of the insurance industry and a filter to keep frivolous suits from going to trial.
Doctor facing malpractice suits in W.Va. fined in Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An osteopath facing multiple malpractice lawsuits in West Virginia was fined $2,500 and allowed to continue practicing in Alabama earlier this year even after medical officials determined he committed fraud to obtain a license, state records showed Friday.
