University to appeal malpractice verdict
Michelle DiLieto of North Branford won a $5.2 million verdict Thursday after a seven-week trial against the Yale School of Medicine and her gynecologist for what she said was an unnecessary total hysterectomy that left her with nerve damage.
Medical malpractice reform legislation on Thursday took its first step toward passage when a House committee approved the measure 9-4. The full House may debate and vote on the proposal containing caps on pain-and-suffering jury awards today or over the weekend.
Court edict kills inquiry into Patel
The Queensland Government's $6 million investigation into the alleged malpractice of the overseas-trained surgeon Jayant Patel will not yield a single recommendation or finding, after the inquiry was shut down by the Supreme Court on the grounds of apprehended bias.
