Appeals court rules same-sex partner can't sue hospital for malpractice
NEW YORK A New York appeals court has ruled that a same-sex partner can't sue a Manhattan hospital for malpractice in the death of his longtime partner.

SPRINGFIELD – A suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court on Monday seeks to invalidate a state law limiting jury awards in medical malpractice cases. The law allows unlimited economic damages to compensate for lost wages, medical bills and other associated expenses, but caps non-economic damage awards for pain and suffering, loss of life or limb, disfigurement and loss of companionship... more...
