Malpractice tops agenda for new N.J. health chief
Dr. Fred M. Jacobs is a physician, lawyer, former hospital executive and bureaucrat. Jacobs, the recently appointed New Jersey commissioner of health, will need all those skills to handle the state's myriad health-care problems.
Medical malpractice case filings down
The number of medical malpractice verdicts declined and the percentage of verdicts in favor of health-care providers increased in Philadelphia last year, according to recently released statistics from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Study says medical malpractice system is not plagued by frivolous lawsuits
The debate over medical malpractice litigation, which raged during the last presidential campaign, continues as a hot-button political and health care issue in the U.S. The Senate is expected to vote soon on legislation to impose a federal cap on non-economic damages in malpractice suits, following on similar bills that passed the House of Representatives but stalled in the Senate last year.
