Malpractice insurer wants to keep data secret
SPRINGFIELD - Medical malpractice reform legislation pending in the state House would charge a $50,000 fine on government officials who disclose insurance data companies deem "trade secrets."
During mediation before retired Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert T. Altman, Obi Amanugi—a claims specialist from Ghaderi’s malpractice insurer—obtained Ghaderi’s written consent to settle the case for no more than $125,000. The consent form provided that the consent could only be revoked in writing.
Court overturns law aimed at tort reform
The Oklahoma Supreme Court stunned tort reform advocates on Tuesday by overturning a 2003 law credited with cutting malpractice lawsuits in the state by up to 60 percent.
