Medical malpractice reform legislation on Thursday took its first step toward passage when a House committee approved the measure 9-4. The full House may debate and vote on the proposal containing caps on pain-and-suffering jury awards today or over the weekend.
China to keep ethics records on medical staff
China will keep ethics records on 5.27 million medical staff to curb malpractice, according to a notice released Thursday.
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) has reintroduced legislation (S 243) he sponsored in the 109th Congress that would limit noneconomic damages in medical malpractice lawsuits to $750,000, CQ HealthBeat reports. Ensign said that the bill would cap noneconomic damages for a single health care provider at $250,000 with a total limit of $750,000. [click link for full article]
