Adair County jury awards family $400,000 in malpractice lawsuit
KIRKSVILLE - An Adair County jury awarded $400,000 to a family in a medical malpractice lawsuit. The case was the result of a 2000 incident involving Dr. John Bailey, D.O., and the Lowe family of Lebanon, Mo.
Jury awards Billy Blanks $15 million in legal malpractice suit
LOS ANGELES - A jury awarded Tae Bo creator Billy Blanks an additional $15 million in punitive damages in his case against a Chicago law firm that he claims misfiled a lawsuit and attempted to cover up the mistake.
When Dr. John E. Steers began practicing medicine in 1971, his malpractice insurance premium cost him $1,471 a year. By the time he retired in 2005, the Westminster general surgeon was paying close to $75,000 for insurance to protect himself against potential lawsuits.
