N.J. Court Widens Standard for Legal Malpractice Claims
A New Jersey appeals court has ruled that a legal malpractice claim is not precluded by settlement of the underlying case, poking a hole in a state doctrine barring such claims. The plaintiff settled its original suit against two nursing homes, but a lower court refused to let it sue its former lawyer for omitting claims that might have led to a much larger judgment.
