A lawsuit filed Monday alleges that recent legislation capping medical malpractice awards is unconstitutional. The law, which took effect Aug. 25, 2005, limits awards for pain, suffering and disability to $500,000 per doctor and $1 million per hospital. There are no limits for medical expenses.
