Surgeon under scrutiny loses right to practice
The troubled career of Dr. Merrimon Baker hit a setback Wednesday. The 50-year-old Baker, an orthopedic surgeon, who once was accused of leaving a sponge inside a patient and was on the losing end of a record $40 million jury verdict on a malpractice case, was ordered to lay his scalpel down until further notice by the Texas Medical Board.
